Chlorophytum comosum

Spiderlings or Spiderettes are the “babies” produced from a Spider Plant often after flowering. These offshoots have all been propagated and grown in my wee house in Glasgow. They’re very cute and there are a variety of pots colours for you to choose from. If you can’t pick a favourite colour, why not get a collection?

Chlorophytum comosum (Spider Plant) Short Care Guide

  • Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light but tolerates lower light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight which can scorch the leaves.

  • Watering: Water moderately, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.

  • Humidity: Prefers average to high humidity. Mist occasionally or place near a humidifier if the air is very dry.

  • Temperature: Ideal temperature range is 15-25°C. Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

  • Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix, rich in organic matter.

  • Fertilising: Feed monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, diluted houseplant fertiliser.

  • Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years or when root-bound, ideally in spring.

  • Propagation: Easily propagated via the plantlets or ‘spiderettes’ that grow on runners.

  • Common issues: Brown leaf tips often indicate overwatering, low humidity, or fluoride in tap water. Adjust care accordingly.

Perfect for beginners, the spider plant is resilient and adds a lovely touch of greenery to any home.
